Wildflower Weaving & JDesigns
Janice weaves and creates her art in a sunny corner of her home in Fairfax, Vermont. She majored in graphic design at Paier College of Art in New Haven, CT, studied art and culture at Vermont College and has a M.Ed. in creative arts from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA.
Janice focused her career on teaching art in Vermont public schools while raising her children and a variety of fiber animals; sheep, angora goats and angora rabbits. She started weaving traditional Navajo style in her mid-twenties and began weaving on a floor loom in her fifties as a way to heal from a serious illness. She creates her own designs and strives to make each handwoven piece more challenging and more exciting than the previous one. Janice posts her process and completed projects on her Facebook page, Wildflower Weaving & JDesigns. Another passion is painting portraits, recently on wood, that she makes into ‘Deco Hangers’. She uses Deco Hangers to display her weaving and they are also available for purchase. Janice also enjoys providing one-on-one weaving instruction and facilitating weaving workshops.
I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. Weaving came very naturally to me and continues to fascinate me as I see a weaving in nearly everything. I am inspired by the colors and textures from sunrise to sunset right outside of my kitchen window and everywhere I go.
